Your Life In Focus

Mar 20, 2020

On Saturday March 7th I joined 15,000 of my new best friends to go hang out with Oprah for the day. She was traveling the country conducting Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus tour.

The day was filled with speakers, singers and dancers. All in the name of wellness. Although it was quite Kumbaya at times, I did take away some good stuff that I’m going to share it with you!

● Wellness means all things in balance. Meaning your mind, body and spirit are all working together in harmony. Specifically:

MIND: managing your emotions (how you react to situations and how you deal with emotions), respecting others, intellectually challenging yourself, learning new skills and developing them, finding value in your work.

BODY: A balanced diet and incorporating physical activity into your life. Also the hard one… SLEEP!

SPIRIT: Knowing your purpose and meaning of life. Building and maintaining strong relationships.

● She also taught me my new favorite definition of stress: “stress is wanting the situation you’re in to be something it is not.” How true is that?! Next time you’re sitting in traffic on I-70 going up to the mountains just remember, you can’t change the situation you’re in, but you can change your attitude about it. Put on your music, take some deep breaths and appreciate those gorgeous mountainous views.

● Stop saying yes when you mean no! Man, I needed to hear this. “No is a complete sentence.” It doesn’t have to be “ No, but…” or “no, because..” If someone asks you to do something that is not in line with your intention, simply say no. (You can still be polite when saying no!) What is your intention? Why are you doing what you are doing? Because when you say yes, people think you mean it. Don’t be resentful when you were the one who said yes!

● “Commitment isn’t just trying, it’s deciding. Deciding what’s right for you. Deciding the time is right. Deciding you deserve it. Deciding there are no excuses or delays. Deciding how you keep your word- to yourself and your life.”

We are now a few months into 2020. How’s that resolution coming along? Maybe it's time to check in and remember a few things: 1. What was your focus? Where are you vs. where you want to be? How balanced is your wellness? 2. What is your intention? What is your WHY?? 3. How committed are you? Do you have a plan?

As the great Oprah said: “ The true meaning of courage is to be afraid- and then, with your knees knocking and your heart racing, take the leap anyway.”
