At Arvada Sport and Spine Group our goal is to do all we can to help you feel better and move better while minimizing and eliminating when possible the use of drugs and surgery. Our commitment to being great at what we do is evident in having been voted the Best of the Best in stem cell therapy in Arvada. Along with our Physical therapy and Sports Chiropractic we are able to harness the ability of the body to heal using regenerative medicine. These procedures are commonly referred to as stem cell therapy, PRP or platelet rich plasma, and prolotherapy. These regenerative treatments allow us to often times eliminate the need for opioids and other potentially addictive pharmaceuticals.
What is Regenerative Therapy
Regenerative Treatments consists of three steps:
1. Bone Marrow Stem Cells are harvested – A small amount of bone marrow is gently harvested from the ilium bone which is a large hip bone. Bone marrow is a great source of stem cells that your body uses to heal itself.
2. Bone Marrow is Processed – Bone marrow is separated in our own lab to ensure that we control the process from harvest to injection. Mesenchymal stem cells and platelets are separated from other types of cells in order to concentrate them.
3. Stem Cell Therapy – With ultrasound guidance to ensure precision delivery your prepared stem cells are injected into specific treatment areas. The cells then migrate to the joint lining, where they halt a chronic destructive inflammatory process. These cells then deliver their RNA and good mitochondria into other cells and make them produce proteins. They also stimulate local cells to join in the repair process.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult stem cells. Arvada Sport and Spine Group uses your own stem cells when working to regenerate and repair your own body. We do not use stem cells from other sources. Simply put we use your own stem cells in a concentrated way to assist your body in healing itself.
PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma is used to repair chronic degenerative joints, tendon and ligament injuries. With PRP injections your own concentrated growth factors and platelets are delivered to the source of injury to start the healing cascade. This concentration of platelets contains large amounts of bioactive proteins, and growth factors that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue regeneration and repair. These bioactive proteins begin the healing of connective tissue. The concentrated PRP and growth factors are delivered precisely using ultrasound by a trained physician.
While prolotherapy is a term used by some to describe any regenerative injection for our purposes we will define it as a third option and a procedure that is different and distinct from both stem cell and PRP therapy.
Prolotherapy is a safe non-surgical treatment for chronic pain, injury, instability of joints, and arthritis. This procedure involves injecting a hypertonic glucose solution into the damaged joint, ligament or tendon. This process stimulates the healing process by signaling the body to send your own platelets and growth factors to the injured area.
So which is best for my situation?
With different options it may leave a person wondering which type of regenerative procedure may be best for them. First of all lets make sure that you will likely benefit from a regenerative procedure. Again, our clinic is an integrated clinic and it isn’t unusual that someone comes in with a painful joint or region and we are able to take care of it with physical therapy and chiropractic. After we take your history, perform a full movement screen, review any imaging and consider your goals we can help you figure this out.
